Family Favorite Christmas Books

Christmas is approaching, ready or not! (And I am not even close!) We love to read Christmas books and enjoy taking them out each year. We always choose one advent-type of book and last year we read Jotham's Journey: A Storybook for Advent. We hope to read the next in the series this year.

What are your favorite Christmas books? Here are some of our favorites:

Annika's Secret Wish is one that we also really enjoy. Love of family and sacrifice for one another--it is a very touching story.

This next one is really fun. You have to read it with several different accents and the children get a complete kick out of it. The Legend of Papa Noel: A Cajun Christmas Story

We loved this next one when it first came out and we still very much enjoy it today.

The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey

Two more we really enjoy are these: One Wintry Night and Letters From Father Christmas.

Are there special things you do for Christmas? Do you like to check out the newest Christmas books each year like me?

Those books sound great. I will have to investigate further and add that to our tradition!

Every year when we put up the Christmas tree, we compare the tree and all that goes on it to Jesus. The evergreen because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, the lights because He is the light of the world, the tinsel and ornaments to remind us how He has truly blessed our lives, and the star to remind us of His birth. On Christmas morining, we eat cake and ice cream to celebrate Jesus' birthday and read the story of His birth from Luke before opening any presents!

Thanks for letting me share. :)

Thanks for sharing! I like the comparison of the tree, etc. to Christ. That is a really neat way to decorate. Cake and ice cream for breakfast! My children would happily agree to that Christmas morning menu!

We have many Christmas traditions, I just love this time of year...simmering cinnamon sticks and cloves on the stove, getting out the miniature nativity for the little ones to play with, making Christmas cards, decorating, baking Blueberry Buckle Ring for Christmas breakfast...the many get-togethers with family and friends. I'm not a registered homeschool blogger so I'll leave my addy here for you: http://www.homesteepedhope.wordpress.com
